Building a High-Quality Teaching Profession: Lessons from around the world
Abstract
"This report was prepared as background information for the International Summit on the Teaching Profession that took place March 16-17, 2011. The Summit was the first of its kind to be convened by the U.S. Department of Education. The goal was to identify and elaborate on best practices from around the world for recruiting, preparing and supporting teachers in ways that effectively enhance the teaching profession and ultimately, elevate student performance.During the summit, education leaders from around the world engaged in thoughtful and conversational discussions centered on the summit's session themes, including: Teacher Recruitment and Preparation; Development, Support and Retention of Teachers; Teacher Evaluation and Compensation; and Teacher Engagement in Education Reform."
