Approaches To Evaluating Teacher Preparation Programs In Seven States

Abstract

"Policymakers, researchers, educators, and others have expressed concerns about the quality of teacher preparation, spurring efforts to reform how states evaluate teacher preparation programs. As a result, many states are rethinking their evaluation criteria and methods to better understand how program graduates are performing, with the goal of improving curricula, recruitment, and clinical experiences (Noell & Kowalski, 2010). This report describes how the seven Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Central states (Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming) evaluate their teacher preparation programs and the changes they are making to improve their approach es to evaluation."
